🛠️ The Components of Precision Farming
Precision Farming (PF), also known as Precision Agriculture (PA) or smart farming, is a management strategy that uses information technology to observe, measure, and respond to variability within a farm field.
The core principle is to replace the traditional "one-size-fits-all" approach with site-specific management, ensuring that the Right Input is applied at the Right Amount in the Right Place at the Right Time (The 4 R's, often expanded to the 5 R's including the Right Method).
It is fundamentally a data-driven process designed to maximize resource efficiency, profitability, and environmental sustainability.
Remote Sensing: Satellites and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs or Drones) use multi-spectral and thermal cameras to capture images. This data is processed to generate vegetative indices (like NDVI), which indicate crop health, water stress, and nutrient deficiencies across the field.
